All comments are moderated (have spent last 5 minutes rejecting stock advice from some moron called gowrie who's tried to spam my dvd reveiew blog) so when you post a comment it takes a while to appear (especially when I'm on vacation in Cyprus :))

Onkyo have probably the best receiver on the market at the moment with a model which is THX-2 certified and does all the new HD-DVD sound formats including HDMI 1.3a. If I were buying today (I wish!) I'd go with them rather than Denon, but I feel some loyalty to Denon for quality service in the past.

Funny how when you start that 42 inch TV (50 inch in my case) seems really big and then a year later it seems kinda smaller than you'd have liked huh? I won't be happy until I can get IMAX in to install the screen ;-)

Anyway greetings to the clan and hope you're all well,Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13442419547110456696noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27988188.post-52814989874899237562007-11-06T22:39:00.000+00:002007-11-06T22:39:00.000+00:00Mooch here,I get all hot and bothered when you sta...Mooch here,

I get all hot and bothered when you start talking techie you know. Especially audio/video.

We went with the Plasma Panasonic (sadly, only 42"). The Pioneers do have a superior picture, but it wasn't worth literally another thousand dollars more. We purchased just over a year ago.

We have a store chain here, Circuit City, which luckily had the 42 and 50" of both the Pioneers and Panasonics set up and we could see them all. Not side by side, but close.

Having that advantage is really important. You just cannot tell otherwise.

Admittedly, I would now wish for the 50" size, though the 42" is a bit clearer , imho. Now if the TV stations would just project everything in HD, I'd be happy.

Those Denon recievers are something else. Wouldn't mind one. We almost went to components (our hi-fi had decided to give up the ghost about a year before the television did) but the Onkyo S990THX system was too good of a bargain to pass up- $1000 US including speakers. I think you can pick it up for around $750 now a days.

So we now have a 7:1 all THX certified system, including a 12 inch powered sub woofer. We likes shaking the house, Precious. Hell the box weighed over 140 pounds. The Onkyo does not have HD audio, only Digital Optical.

I have a couple of DVD concerts- Shakira and Mana that we have watched and no complaints on the sound. Jen watched the Queen DVD with me when she was here and we were very happy. Opinions Jen?

The UK needs a big honking Frys Electronics.

And sorry about repeat posts in the past, the system doesn't always say it has saved my comments so I clicked twice.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
